So you’ve heard singers like Adele and Taylor Swift and wondered “how are they able to do it?” They sing almost every minute of their day. How do they keep up? How are they still able to have such an amazing voice and how are they able to hit the right notes every single time?

Here are the answers. Follow these tips and you’ll be able to improve your voice in no time.

  1. Breathing Correctly

One of the most common things we see in professional singers is the way they Breathing correctly is imperative to having a strong voice. The key is to breathe deeply. You need to learn how to breathe correctly. As you inhale and exhale, try to inflate your stomach and kidney (back) areas with your breath.

  1. Correct Posture

The second most significant feature of a singer is their posture. Pay attention to the position of your feet, knees, hips, abdomen, chest, shoulders, arms, and head. Your feet should be slightly apart, with one foot slightly in front of the other so that your weight is slightly forward. Your knees should be relaxed and slightly bent. Your hands should be relaxed and hanging at your sides. Your abdomen should be relaxed but ready to be engaged. Your shoulders should slide back and down so that your back is straight and your head is high. Your chest should be slightly up and out. Your chin should be parallel with the floor.

Notice how you hardly ever see a dinger shouting. That’s because they are very relaxed, physically and mentally. Be sure to relax your face and your neck as well as your mind. Follow a hobby or activity other than singing, i.e. yoga, meditation, walking, watching a show you love, reading a good book; that will help you keep you mental cool. Singing or even speaking while your body and face are tensed will only make it more difficult to produce a high-quality sound. Relaxing your mouth, lips, jaw and neck. But at the same time, you need to make sure that your mouth is wide open when you sing to let your voice out.

Every singer needs to warm up. It is practically an unsaid rule. Check these vocal exercises that should be done almost daily to help improve your voice. Remember to cool down after every exercise.

Drink at least six to eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day; more if you exercise or live somewhere hot or if you sweat a lot.

Whole grains, fruits, and vegetables promote a healthy voice by keeping the mucus membranes that line your throat healthy.

  1. Avoid substances that can irritate your vocal folds

You MUST avoid smoking as much as possible; even second-hand smoking can be irritating. At all cost avoid spicy foods, milk products, foods with a high-salt content, citrus fruits, alcohol (including mouthwashes that contain alcohol), and cold and allergy medications. What you consume is one of the biggest factors that can affect your voice.

  1. Get enough sleep

If you body is fatigued, it will show in your voice. Adults should aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night; teenagers should aim for 8.5 to 9.5 hours each night.

  1. Learn from a Professional

If you aren’t a professional singer, make sure you go to a voice trainer. A voice trainer can help you improve your voice and even teach you to sing by reading notes or give you exercises that would suit your voice, pitch and tone perfectly.
